JAPNA Article: The Impact Of Workplace Violence Towards Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses: Identifying The Facilitators And Barriers To Supportive Resources - May-Jun 2021 (27:3)
Incidents of workplace violence (WPV) are often under-reported by PMH nurses. Education attempts are often insufficient and ineffective. Studies have also shown that PMH nurses would like access to professional psychological interventions following an incident of WPV to address the adverse cumulative effects. This article elucidates change by providing further insight and understanding on the detrimental impact of WPV regarding PMH nurses’ well-being and their ability to provide quality patient care. Specific recommendations voiced by the PMH nursing population were clarified in this article to help identify effective tertiary preventative methods and improve access to supportive resources.
