4013-16: Report on the National Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Survey

Presentation of data derived from the 2016 APNA sponsored National Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) survey.  The current PMH APRN workforce is described, its size, distribution, types of services provided and therapeutic modalities utilized.  Implications for workforce development are discussed.

Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the characteristics of the Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) workforce, its size, characteristics and major activities.
  2. Identify critical differences between the PMH APRN workforce and other APRN specialty groups.
  3. Explain, based on the data presented, implications for PMH APRN workforce development in light of its current capacity and mental health service needs.
