2034-18: Coaching Families of Teens with Co-Occurring Disorders

This session introduces a manualized family coaching group for adults who parent young people with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Structural family systems grounds family training in motivational interviewing, CBT skills, and use of family resources as incentives to influence youth behaviors and are presented for discussion.

Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe three strategies of an alternative approach to family intervention designed to meet the needs of families and youth who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
