2020 Competency Based Training for Conducting the One Hour Face-to-Face Assessment for Patients in Restraints or Seclusion
This activity will provide the key components for assessing a patient placed in restraint or seclusion as a result of behavior that may be dangerous to self or others. Attention will be paid to the parameters set forth by the regulatory bodies. These will include, surveillance of the immediate situation, evaluation of the patient’s reactions to the restraint or seclusion implementation, assessment of the medical and behavioral condition of the patient, and determining the need to continue or terminate the restraint or seclusion. Additionally, there will be a discussion of four key assessment elements including physical risks for loss of life, physical dangers and discomforts, the patient’s mental status, and legal and ethical considerations.
