1012-16: Implementation and Evaluation of a Clinical Hybrid Program in a Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Undergraduate Course

The implementation and evaluation of an innovative mental health clinical hybrid program in a baccalaureate nursing program will be presented. Highlights include core clinical concepts, outline of each clinical simulation day and learning outcomes. In addition, a variety of self-reflective exercises, interactive learning activities and resources are discussed and facilitated.

Session Objectives
Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
1.  Identify a minimum of five core mental health concepts and competencies that can be integrated into a comprehensive mental health clinical lab with simulation experience for undergraduate nursing students and/or new psychiatric nurses.
2.  Examine methodologies to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate a mental health clinical hybrid program that incorporates inpatient clinical, lab and simulation on academic learning outcomes and students’ perception of learning experience.
3.  Identify and outline a minimum of two clinical lab opportunities with simulation that could be incorporated into current psychiatric mental health nursing curriculum or practice orientation and discuss strengths and potential challenges to these initiatives.
