1005-16: Military Psychiatry: Practice and Pitfalls for Civilian Providers

Joe Holshoe uses his experience as a Navy officer and now US Public Health service officer to provide a detailed description of military medicine. He includes medications and diagnoses that can prevent enlistment and/or deployment in a discussion related to treatment of military members.

1. Review the basic structure of military hierarchy and medicine.
2. Explore the dual nature of military medicine.
3. Identify medications that can limit deployment.
4. Identify diagnoses that can prevent enlistment and deployments.
5. Discuss variances in psychiatric presentation in military populations.
