4012-17: Incorporating Psychiatric Nursing at the Frontline of Emergency Care

Psychiatric emergency services provided by psychiatric providers allow for a patient focused approach to mental health care.  Integration with Emergency departments can be challenging.  Learn how our PMH nurses are making a difference each day and  advancing  healthcare changes focused around the mental health needs of our community.

  1. Compare two to three differences in the care provided to mental health patients in a dedicated psychiatric emergency services unit versus a general emergency department.
  2. Define what it entails to integrate two separate departments to drive the care of one patient population.
  3. Outline the key environmental elements necessary for an effective, safe psychiatric emergency environment.
