The most common root cause of inpatient suicide is a failure in clinical assessment.  This session explores the development of a new tool based on the APNA suicide competencies. The Nursing Suicide Risk Inventory (NSRI) provides inpatient psychiatric-mental health nurses with a comprehensive picture of patient suicide risk.

    review evidence-based recommendations for assessment & documentation of self-directed violence (SDV) risk.
  2. Explore the literature/practice gap regarding nursing-specific suicide risk assessment tools for the inpatient psychiatric setting.
  3. Discuss New York-Presbyterian’s Nursing Suicide Risk Inventory (NSRI).
