2023-16: Understanding Depressive Symptoms: Chronic Sorrow in the Elderly (Methodological Considerations and Clinical Implications)

Evaluation of depressive symptoms in elders with chronic medical conditions is complex and multi-faceted. Chronic sorrow related to chronic medical illness offers a less rigid and more nursing-focused approach to identification, treatment and prevention of progression of mood-related symptoms in the elderly.

Session Objectives
Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
1.  Identify methodological and clinical considerations when evaluating mood disturbances in elderly with chronic medical illness.
2.  Formulate a comprehensive picture of mood progression from chronic sorrow to depressive illness without successful intervention.
3.  Create interventions for elderly experiencing mood disturbances related to multiple factors including chronic medical illness.
