In this first part of a two-part presentation, nurses will gain knowledge of epidemiological evidence regarding opioid use disorders, and will also learn best treatment approaches.

Session Objectives
Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
1.  Identify key morbid and mortality statistics related to heroin and prescription opioid use in recent years.
2.  Identify factors that have resulted in the recent increase in heroin use in the United States.
3.  Identify one way to increase access to treatment for opioid use disorders in the settings/communities where you work as a psychiatric nurse.
