An honest overview of the field of forensic psychiatry, including the need for knowledgeable nurses to enter this field. The terminology, problems indemic in the prison system, and some positives of treating this population are explained.

Session Objectives:
Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

1. Define forensic psychiatry.
2. Discuss what kinds of civil and criminal evaluations are performed by forensic psychiatry.  Discuss what types of treatment forensic psychiatrists are called upon.
3. Discuss the treatment of chronic aggression and Intermittent Explosive Disorder.
4. Discuss the realities of working in correctional psychiatry.
5. Discuss what kinds of civil and criminal evaluations are performed by forensic psychiatry.
